Research Specialist I, II, or III

General Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director of BME, the Research Specialist I, II or III will support R&D in conducting research projects by contributing to the following: develop protocols for and maintain laboratory equipment; troubleshoot and resolve problems; ensure compliance with lab protocols and safety standards, policies and procedures; performing complex data gathering and analysis. This role serves to assist with conducting pre-clinical research aimed at validating, testing products and discovering, developing innovative medical technologies

Primary Responsibilities and Competencies*:

  • Performs testing of specimens utilizing a variety of modalities including MicroCT, DSLR
  • Performs image/data post-processing utilizing software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office and ImageJ/FIJI.
  • Ensures that the equipment is in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and quality control standards.
  • Utilizes established mathematical and scientific techniques to compile and analyze data.
  • Writes technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations. 
  • Performs data entry using word processing, spreadsheet or database commands and formats material as required.
  • Prepares graphic exhibits using software for presentations.
  • Enters, revises and/or combines materials such as research samples, numerical data, laboratory record logs and preformatted data retrieval information.
  • Creates data directories/subdirectories for file and report generation retrieval purposes. Maintains paper and/or disk file data.
  • Reviews discrepancies in data received, requests clarification or advises supervisor of issues related to data and performs data verification routines in accordance with company procedures.
  • Interacts with other company employees on matters affecting data and makes recommendations for improvement or enhancement to job processes to ensure standards in data quality, collection and retrieval.

Required Education, Experience and Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering/Bioengineering, Chemical engineering, Computer Science, and related fields or combination of education and experience.
  • 0-2 years of experience as a Research Associate or similar.
  • Experience with research involving animal studies and medical devices.
  • Experience with research results reporting, research-focused publications and data analysis.
  • Knowledge Microsoft Office Products Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Preferred Education, Qualifications & Experience:

  • 4-7 years of experience as a Research Associate or similar.
  • Coursework or strong interest in Biology, Chemistry, Statistics or a related field.
  • Familiarity with scientific image processing software such as ImageJ/FIJI.
  • Experience in coding for data processing and analysis in languages such as R, Python, Visual Basic for Applications.
  • Experience with computed tomography (CT) and analysis of CT data using software such as Caliper Analyze.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud Products such as Bridge, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.
